PAW Program

Introduction

Simple Sparrow Care Farm utilizes farm nature for therapeutic and educational outcomes. As a 501c3 nonprofit, we partner with schools, businesses, therapists, and other organizations to provide trauma-informed care farm programs and services for all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to “Learn+Grow+Heal.”

Program Overview

WHO: Statistics show that people who spend time with animals have a better quality of life overall. However, not everyone has the opportunity to be engaged with animals on a regular basis, especially at-risk youth in group homes, students who are in school all day, and elderly living in nursing homes.

WHAT: The PAW Program provides the community with easy-to-care for pets under the supervision of qualified adults for short increments of time that can easily be extended per need.

WHERE: Schools, group homes, nursing homes as well as businesses and organizations can all benefit from the PAW Program.

HOW: The PAW Organizer arranges with the facility where the animal(s) is to be kept and who will be providing care throughout the duration of the program. Both safety to people and animal(s) are top priority. Potential hazards must be assessed, and liability waivers signed before bringing the animal(s) to the facility.

  1. Select the site: Select a site free from drafts and if kept outdoors, provide shelter and security from predators.

  2. Supervision:  Designate two (2) adult PAW Team Leaders. They should have basic knowledge in animal care or approved through Simple Sparrow. At least one (1) Team Lead must be present during hands-on interactions. This ensures safety to both person and animal.

Schedule care: The Team Leads will create a schedule that assigns tasks to interested people. Tasks and people helping will vary by location, but the basic care must include food, water, and cleaning by at least one (1) person. Team Leads may consult the PAW Organizer or contact Simple Sparrow directly for immediate help or questions.
